Chelsea Handler on Reese Witherspoon's arrest: 'She's doing fine'

Talk show host Chelsea Handler attended the E! Upfronts in New York City on Monday, April 22, where she spoke about her friend, actress Reese Witherspoon's recent arrest.

37-year-old Witherspoon and her 42-year-old husband Jim Toth were arrested on Friday, April 19, after Toth was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence, Witherspoon getting into a verbal argument with the police officer.

Of her friend's arrest, Handler said, "She's doing fine. She's doing fine, you know? She's just trying to protect her husband, so ... I mean, everybody makes mistakes so it's not a big deal," reports Entertainment Tonight.

Two days after the arrest, Handler joined Witherspoon and Toth at the Greenwich Hotel in NYC following a screening of Mud, along with other stars such as Cameron Diaz, Michael Keaton, Judd Apatow, and Leslie Mann.

A source said of the group, "Nobody was drunk -- it was pretty tame. They all seemed really happy. There was no indication that there was anything wrong," reports Us Weekly.

Witherspoon also gave a statement about the incident to Us Weekly, explaining, "Out of respect for the ong! oing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse."
